Leadplant is an often sought-after native. Its extremely deep roots make it very drought tolerant and even tolerant of wildfires. The silvery gray foliage give it a distinctive attractive look. While it may take several years to become established and flower, its flowers are a showy mass of bright purple that attract a myriad of pollinators. It is also a host plant to the caterpillars of the Southern Dogface butterfly. While not an impressive name, the Dogface butterfly is a striking yellow and black that you will surely want to see visit your garden.
