Malus domestica
Did you know that apples have one of the most diverse gene pools in nature? There are limitless options for the traits of their offspring. Whereas most apple trees are propagated to be exact replicas of their parent (and so continue with their admirable traits), these trees are grown from seed. Each one of these apple trees will produce their own unique fruit with no other apple tree on earth producing the exact same type. This also means that there is no standard or guarantee as to the size, shape, color, texture, or sweetness of their apples. On the other hand, they are often hardier and more economic apple trees making them a first choice for plantings intended for wildlife or just the curious home gardener.
Sometimes these trees are also known as "Paradise Apples"; however, remember, no two are identical!
