What a shame this graceful native is stuck with such a deceptive name! The showy flowers are beautiful and resemble a yellow coneflower or daisy. The pollen is a favorite amidst the insect community. On top of that, it is a host plant to the Dainty Sulphur butterfly.
The poor name is derived from its historic use to use the dried leaves and flowers to make a form of snuff that when used could make its user sneeze. Perhaps our ancestors should have left it in the garden for the pollinators and birds and found something else to use.
