A hardy perennial known for its beautiful purple/blue cones of flowers that start the beginning of summer. Also as a legume, it enriches the soil it grows in with nitrogen. Be cautious around cattle and horses as it is poisonous for them if a significant amount is ingested.

Sole host plant for endangered Karner Blue Butterfly. Prefers well drained sandy soil. Will become dormant mid-summer.
